I got the configuration tab installed, but it appears the controls are all disabled (greyed out). What must be done to enable the options?

To be honest: I don't know and it was a long time since I worked on this. I did however check out the page I referred to in the article and if you hav enot read it, you should. Beside that I am sorry to say I don't know. The page is: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms733943(v=VS.90).aspx

You have a good point on RFID being measured in the exam and appfabric connect is not. Although I assume it will measured under messaging architecture and/or WCF, hence it deals with configuration of adapters like Adapter Service (e.g. that is a project template in Visual Studio 2010) or adapter like WCF-SQL, which does making possible to connect to SQL Azure. We will have to wait and see when taking the exam.

I found the product key by simply going to computer properties (system properties). I didn't take a screen shot first (sorry), but at the bottom, it said something about my having fifteen days left, and I could activate now.

After that failed, Googling 0xc004f074 showed me your page. Next to "activatie now online" was "change product key."

Bingo.
